Information about Dive Courses
  Below you find information about different dive courses, what they allow you to do, where to go from there and what is involved in taking the classes. The courses are alphabetically ordered by certification agency and subordered by courselevel. Please scroll down to the agency you're looking for and find the level of course you need information about.

BSAC Sports Diver
  In Sports Diver training, the emphasis is on building a sound foundation of open water diving skills and experience through a series of structured practical lessons. Once you have gained this open water experience with a qualified instructor, you are ready to take part in dives with other Sports Divers or those of higher grades.

BSAC Ocean Diver
  This course provides you with the essential knowledge and skills needed to prepare for open water diving. Learning to dive is all about learning to use your equipment properly and safely. The Ocean Diver training course concentrates on preparing you for this in the safety of a swimming pool or sheltered water and then introducing you to open water in a controlled and safe manner. This also gives you the opportunity to practice safety skills in the company of a qualified instructor or experienced diver.

BSAC Advanced Diver
  The Advanced Diver course further develops your knowledge and skills. You will gain experience in planning and organising dives at different sites and under different circumstances. Additional experience will be gained in using small boats, chartwork, navigation and many other related skills. The BSAC consider this grade a fully trained diver.

BSAC Dive Leader
  Dive Leader training concentrates on the responsibilities and safety aspects of leading other divers on an open water dive. Practical lessons in rescue management and rescue skills will give you the confidence and ability to deal with those unforeseen emergencies. Leading a dive will develop your enjoyment, confidence and experience as a diver.

DAN O2 Provider
  Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries: As a recreational diver, you can receive training to provide vital first aid that can make a difference to a scuba diver with decompression illness. The DAN Oxygen Provider Course provides entry-level training in the recognition and management of possible diving-related injuries using emergency oxygen first aid.

DSAT Gasblender
  Why DSAT Gas Blender? More people are diving with enriched air and this means the demand for enriched air fills is also increasing. However, there needs to be someone qualified to administer these fills to meet this demand. This is where the DSAT Gas Blender course comes in. It can result in one of two certifications: DSAT Gas Blender or DSAT Trimix Blender. What do I need to start? PADI Enriched Air Diver certification (or qualifying certification from another organization), Minimum age: 18 years old. What will I do? The DSAT Gas Blender course will train you as a qualified gas blender, allowing you to provide gas mixes to appropriately certified consumers. You'll learn the physical properties of oxygen, its associated hazards, handling requirements and what cleaning equipment is necessary. Finally, you will learn the five methods of obtaining the desired enriched air nitrox mix and the various methods used to obtain proper helium mixes. What will I need? DSAT Gas Blender Manual, Gas Mix Calculator.

EFR Program
  Why Emergency First Response? Emergency First Response gives you the tools you need to perform CPR and First Aid. Whether you're a diver or a non-diver, Emergency First Response prepares you to properly handle potentially life-threatening situations. What do I need to start? No dive certification required. No minimum age limit. What will I do? This comprehensive program is composed of two core modules that can be taught in tandem or as stand-alone courses: Emergency First Response - Primary Care and Emergency First Response - Secondary Care. Together, these courses proved extensive instruction in CPR and First Aid, as well as providing optional (yet recommended) Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Emergency Oxygen sections. How long will it take? Depending on the amount of home study, the Primary and Secondary courses may be completed in as little as four hours. What will I need? Participant Pack, which includes manual, binder and first aid pack. Where can I go from here? This course satisfies your PADI Rescue Diver CPR prerequisite.

NAUI SCUBA Diver/jr. SCUBA Diver
  Slowly the water level rises in front of your mask as you descend from the surface. Your underwater adventure begins. This course is NAUI’s entry level certification course where you gain the fundamental knowledge and skills to safely scuba dive in open water. As long as you are 12years or older, in good physical condition you can participate in the course. You will learn about dive equipment, the science of diving, responsible diving practices and the environment. There are many useful skills you will learn in a confined water environment, with practice time to improve your safety and comfort. Completion of the course is with an exam and the minimum of 5 open water dives, after which you can explore the underwater world and further your diving skills by participating in Advanced Scuba course or Rescue Scuba diver course and Specialty courses or even become a dive professional becoming a Divemaster or Instructor.

NAUI Skindiver/jr.Skindiver
  Floating on a clear sea watching fishes and crustaceans and the shifting light on the corals below. This is snorkeling and breath hold diving. Fun for the whole family, this certification class is for 8 years and over. Accomplished and non-swimmers. A NAUI instructor will coach you and once you’ve completed your training and two open water dives you will have the skills to be a comfortable and safe Skin diver. With what you have learned you can take the next step of becoming a NAUI Scuba Diver.

NAUI Experienced SCUBA Diver
  This is the perfect course for the diver with experience but not a formal certification (such as military, commercial or scientific divers) who wishes to gain a NAUI diver certification. You must be 15 years of age and have proof of at least 25 open water scuba dives to enroll in an Experienced Scuba Diver course. Once you’ve completed your NAUI exam and open water training, you will gain a NAUI Scuba Diver certification – the most respected diver certification card in the world!

NAUI Advanced SCUBA/jr.Advanced SCUBA Diver
  Let your underwater adventure continue! Apply your scuba skills as you explore new dive sites and activities under the supervision and training of your NAUI Instructor. Learn which diving specialties interest you, and what type of diving you enjoy most. Gain more confidence and capability. Begin to consider the direction diving will take you, as you go for everything it has to offer. The Advanced Scuba Diver course is an enjoyable certification course for 12-year-old (or older) certified divers who desire additional training, have moved from one diving area to another and desire local orientation, do not have, but wish to obtain, NAUI certification, or who desire orientation to a variety of diving sites and conditions. As part of your certification, you will complete a minimum of six open water dives including three separate dives for navigation, night or low visibility diving and deep diving (130 feet/40 meters maximum depth), plus three different dives. Some of the many different dives you can do include: Search and recovery, Boat diving, Light salvage, Wreck Diving (non-penetration), Observation and data collection, Diving in surf or currents, Altitude diving Salt water diving (in areas where most diving is in fresh water), Fresh water diving (in areas where most diving is in salt water), Shore diving Diving for photos or video, Using dive computers.

NAUI Master SCUBA Diver
  Thrill to the adventure of open water dives in settings that will test your abilities to their limit while expanding your diving capabilities and experience by gaining the in-depth knowledge that will establish you as a recognized authority in your diving club or group. Then proudly carry the most coveted and respected certification card in recreational diving - that of the NAUI Master Scuba Diver. This course is a continuing education certification course for divers who wish to increase their understanding and enjoyment of diving. This course is an excellent progression toward NAUI Leadership roles. During your training, you will engage in a minimum of eight open water dives including the following required dives: Emergency procedures and rescue, Deep/simulated decompression diving, Limited visibility or night diving, Underwater navigation, Search and recovery – light salvage. You can also choose from many different dives for your elective dives. If you are 15 years old and have a NAUI Advanced Scuba Diver certification or its equivalent, you may be ready for the Master Scuba Diver class. Ready, set, learn!

NAUI SCUBA Rescue Diver
  You can expand your diving knowledge with the specialty of a Scuba Rescue Diver course. Once you are 15 years of age and a certified scuba diver. Learn how to manage risks and effectively handle limited in-water problems and diving emergencies, how to assist and transport divers, and how to perform surface rescues and rescues from depth involving both boat and shore based skin and scuba divers. CPR and First Aid certifications are required to complete this course. Your Scuba Rescue Diver training moves you on your pathway to becoming a NAUI Leader: Skin Diving Instructor, Assistant Instructor, Divemaster, or Instructor.

NAUI Assistant Instructor (AI)
  The NAUI Assistant Instructor rating is a NAUI leadership-level certification. The program is designed to introduce students to diving instruction basics. It also tests individuals in fundamental water skills needed to be capable assistants. As an AI, you will be authorized to teach all aspects of skin and scuba diving under the supervision of a NAUI Instructor. This is the best possible way to develop your instructional skills. The rating can be a step toward full Instructor, or an end in itself. Match your time, talent and interests with the NAUI programs near you, and enjoy the adventure of personal and professional enhancement as a NAUI leader. Additional training or experience has to be obtained by the Assistant Instructor who desires to assist in highly specialized training activities, A NAUI Assistant Instructor and can be counted toward student-instructor ratios. After assisting an active-status NAUI Instructor with at least one complete, NAUI Scuba Diver course a current NAUI Assistant Instructor is qualified, if all other prerequisites are met, to enter a NAUI Instructor Training Course (ITC). (Attending a NAUI Instructor Preparatory (PREP) Program and certification as a NAUI Divemaster are recommended prior to attending an ITC.) To attend the course a certification as NAUI Master Scuba Diver and NAUI Scuba Rescue Diver or their equivalent is required. Divers with evidence of equivalent training and experience may be enrolled provided they pass the NAUI Master Scuba Diver written examination with a minimum score of 75%. NAUI Skindiving Instructor (SDI)
  Want to begin working as a professional in the field, organizing your own courses, issuing certifications and conducting open water skin dives? NAUI SDI training is a leadership level certification course designed to train and qualify persons and issue certifications in skin (breath-hold) diving. The course will make available to individuals; schools, camps, or similar groups NAUI Leaders who can effectively teach people to enjoy skin diving with minimal risk and enable you to join NAUI as a leadership member to independently conduct skin diving training and teach the NAUI Skin Diving Course and designated specialty courses as skin diving courses and authorize NAUI to issue certifications for these. Through the growing popularity of snorkeling and skin diving, this may gain you substantial financial rewards. You can also team-teach with a NAUI Instructor, offering the skin diving portion of the Scuba Diver Course. You need to be a Certified skin or scuba diver by a NAUI recognized agency with a minimum of 25 logged skin dives. Dives shall be varied in environment, depth and activities. NAUI Divemaster (DM)
  Would you like to lead dives and dive trips; take certified divers on vacations to the world's best dive sites? As a NAUI Divemaster employed full-time or working independently supervising certified divers during club, store, resort or charter tour and travel activities you enjoy again and again the adventures to which you introduce your clients. Another option leading to NAUI Instructor qualification, the NAUI Divemaster rating is the highest NAUI leadership-level certification with the exception of Instructor. The program is designed to train experienced and knowledgeable divers to organize and conduct enjoyable open water dives for certified divers if the diving activities and locale approximate those in which the Divemaster is trained. Additional training, knowledge or experience is necessary for the Divemaster who desires to organize highly specialized activities, such as wreck penetration, cavern or ice dives or enter a new locale. In addition an active-status NAUI Divemaster is qualified to organize and conduct NAUI Recognition (such as International Diver) and Experience Programs (such as Stingray Experience) and award appropriate recognition materials to participants, to assist an active-status NAUI Instructor in diving courses. is qualified to enter a NAUI Instructor Training Course (ITC). NAUI Instructor Courses (ITC/ICC)
  A NAUI Instructor is a person dedicated to the motto of "Dive Safety Through Education"; a person whom others look to for leadership and knowledge. NAUI has always been and remains today the most prestigious agency focusing on diving instruction. You can share the adventure - and help create it! NAUI Instructor Trainer Workshop
  The increasing popularity of SCUBA diving as a recreational activity means a greater need for qualified diving instructors. The NAUI Instructor Workshop is designed to fulfill this need by identifying and grooming Instructors who have completed a combination of training and evaluated experience specific to the preparing, training, evaluating and counseling of NAUI Instructor Candidates. The Instructor Trainer Designation is a formal NAUI leadership designation- not a certification. The ITD may only be awarded by the NAUI Training Department. Active status Instructors with an IT designation may direct the Instructor Preparatory Program(PREP), Staff Training Workshops(STW), Instructor Training Program(ITP), Instructor Crossover Program(ICP), and Staff ITC, ICC, IQP, or ITW in any position other than Course Director. Any NAUI instructor who has taught or assisted with at least 3 diver certification courses, one of which must be at leadership level, or accumulated 90 diving student contact hours(30 at leadership level), assisting or teaching diving experience gained before becoming a NAUI instructor is acceptable. An ITW must be successfully completed, before registration with NAUI World Wide Headquarters and a letter of agreement provided to new ITs. A signed copy must be returned to enable automatic authorization to conduct the listed courses and programs.

PADI Open Water Diver
  Why PADI Open Water? As a certified PADI Open Water Diver, the most widely recognized and respected rating in the world, you have the freedom to dive with a buddy independent of a professional. If you already tried a PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience or are PADI Scuba Diver certified, check with your instructor to see how credit from these courses may apply to the open water program. What do I need to start? Virtually anyone who is in good health, reasonably fit, and comfortable in the water can earn a PADI Open Water Diver certification. If you are between 10 and 14 or have a child between these ages, there is a PADI Junior Open Water Diver program available. A PADI Jr Open Water Diver between the ages of 10 and 12 years may only dive with a PADI Professional, a certified parent or certified guardian to a maximum depth of 12 metres/40 feet. What will I do? Throughout the course, you’ll learn fundamentals of scuba diving, including dive equipment and techniques. You earn this rating by completing five pool dives and knowledge development sessions and by making four open water (ocean or lake) dives. How long will it take? PADI programs are performance based. You proceed as you demonstrate mastery of the course skills. This allows you to work at a pace that is comfortable for you. What will I need? PADI Advanced Open Water Diver
  The Adventures in Diving program offers both the Adventure Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver certifications. If you complete any three adventure dives, you can earn your PADI Adventure Diver certification. If you complete your Deep Adventure Dive, Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive and three Adventure Dives for a total of five, you can earn your Advanced Open Water Diver certification. Why Advanced Open Water Diver? After your five dives, you'll be more experienced, feel more comfortable in the water and simply enjoy diving more because you better understand the underwater environment. What do I need to start? PADI Open Water Diver certification (or qualifying certification from another organization), Minimum age: 15 (12 for PADI Junior Advanced Open Water Diver) What will I do? This certification includes five Adventure Dives, including the Deep Adventure Dive, the Underwater Navigator Adventure Dive and three of the following: Altitude Diver, Boat Diver, Drift Diver, Deep Diver, Dry Suit Diver, Diver Propulsion Vehicle, Multilevel Diver, Night Diver, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Search and Recovery Diver, Underwater Naturalist, Underwater Videographer, Underwater Photographer, Underwater Navigator, AWARE Fish Identification, Wreck Diver How long will it take? Recommended Course Hours: 15, Minimum Open Water Training: five dives over two days. What will I need? Adventures in Diving Crew-Pak, Adventures in Diving Video, Log Book Where can I go from here? PADI Advanced Open Water Divers at least 15 years of age can enroll in PADI Wreck or Deep Diver Specialty courses and continue on to the PADI Rescue Diver or Junior Rescue Diver course. PADI Adventure Dives can also credit towards the corresponding PADI Specialty Diver certifications.

PADI Rescue Diver
  Why PADI Rescue Diver? Rewarding and fun – that best describes the PADI Rescue Diver course. This course will expand your knowledge and experience level: Rescue Divers learn to look beyond themselves and consider the safety and well being of other divers. Although this course is serious, it is an enjoyable way to build your confidence. What do I need to start? You can enroll in the Rescue Diver Course as a certified Open Water Diver and participate in the Rescue Diver knowledge development and rescue training sessions, in confined water only, while working on your Advanced Open Water Diver certification. Minimum age: 15 years old (12 for PADI Junior Rescue Diver). Successful completion of a sanctioned CPR program within the past 24 months. The Emergency First Response Primary Care (CPR) and Secondary Care (First Aid) courses meet these requirements. What will I do? Rescue Diver training will prepare you to prevent problems and, if necessary, manage dive emergencies. During the five open water sessions, you'll cover: Self-rescue and diver stress, AED and emergency oxygen delivery systems, dive first aid, swimming and non-swimming rescue techniques, emergency management and equipment, panicked diver response, underwater problems, missing diver procedures, surfacing the unconscious diver, in-water rescue breathing protocols, egress (exits), first aid procedures for pressure related accidents, dive accident scenarios. PADI Master Scuba Diver
  What is the PADI Master Scuba Diver Certification? This certification denotes that you've reached the highest recreational diver level in the PADI System of diver education. Where can I go from here? The PADI Master Scuba Diver certification is the highest recreational level in the PADI system of diver education. But, you don't have to stop there! You can continue on to become a PADI Professional. As a Master Scuba Diver you'll be well qualified to begin your training as a PADI Divemaster.

PADI Divemaster
  Take the first step in your dive career and become a PADI Divemaster. Working closely with a PADI Instructor, you'll expand your dive knowledge and hone your skills as you become a dive professional. PADI Divemaster training develops your leadership abilities by training you to supervise dive activities and assist instructors with student divers. What can PADI Divemasters do? Work at local dive centers, on live-aboard dive boats, yachts and at exotic resort locations, Assist PADI Instructors with students, Lead PADI Scuba Divers on guided dive tours, Teach and certify PADI Skin Divers, Teach PADI Discover Snorkeling programs, Conduct PADI Scuba Review programs for certified divers, Lead certified divers on Discover Local Diving experiences, Teach Emergency First Response programs after successful completion of an Emergency First Response Instructor course. What do I need to start? PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or qualifying certification from another training organization. PADI Rescue Diver certification or qualifying certification from another training organization. Medical clearance signed by a physician, 20 logged dives, 18 years old. What will I do? PADI Assistant Instructor
  The PADI Assistant Instructor course is the first portion of the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC). You'll not only gain additional experience as a PADI Professional but you'll also start learning the PADI System of diver education. What can PADI Assistant Instructors do? Teach academic presentations under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor, Evaluate Open Water Diver surface skills under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor, Teach the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty course, Teach Project AWARE Specialty courses, Conduct PADI Discover Scuba experiences, Teach Emergency First Response after successful completion of an Emergency First Response Instructor course. What will I need to start? PADI Divemaster rating or qualifying certification from another certification organization, At least 18 years old, Have 60 logged dives, including night, deep, and navigation dives, Have been a certified diver for at least 6 months. What will I do? Knowledge development through self-study, quizzes, lectures and presentations, Confined water skill review and assessment, workshops and presentations, Open water workshops, rescue assessment and candidate presentations. How long will it take? The course can vary from as little as three days to more than two weeks What materials are needed? PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor
  The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor program is your final step in the quest to become a PADI Instructor. During the IDC, you'll learn to use and adapt the PADI System of diver education to individual student needs. Comprehensive training, supported by a wide variety of PADI educational materials, earns PADI Instructors respect from both students and peers. PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors may conduct a broad range of PADI programs from Discover Scuba to Divemaster. The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor rating sets you apart from the crowd. PADI Instructors may conduct the entire range of PADI programs - from Discover Scuba through Divemaster. PADI Instructors do things others can only daydream about. If you want to live an extraordinary life, you're in the right place. What do I need to start? PADI Assistant Instructor certification or be an instructor in good standing with another training organization for at least six months ( check with a PADI Course Director or PADI Office for qualifying credentials.), Hold a dive certification for at least six months, Have 60 logged dives that include night, deep and navigation dives, Proof of CPR training within the last 24 months, Medical clearance signed by a physician. What will I do? Knowledge development through self-study, quizzes, lectures and presentations, Confined water skill review and assessment, workshops and presentations, Open water workshops, rescue assessment and candidate presentations, Have at least 100 logged dives prior to entering a PADI Instructor Exam. How long will it take? Times can vary from four days to three weeks or more. What materials are needed? SDI Open Water Diver
  The Open Water Scuba Diver course is an entry-level certification course designed to give students the necessary skills to safely conduct open water dives in conditions similar to their training without the direct supervision of an instructor. The course covers all the basic knowledge about equipment, physiology and the marine environment while training students to perform basic skills underwater.

SDI Solo Diver
  One of SDI’s most popular courses, the solo diver program teaches experienced recreational divers how to safely dive independently of a dive buddy. The course stresses proper dive planning and accident prevention and in the benefits, hazards, and proper procedures for diving solo.

SDI Advanced Diver
  The SDI Advanced Diver Development Program was created to make truly “Advanced Divers”. Under the old way of training a student could take an Advanced Course right after an Open Water course and only have a total of 9 dives all under the direct training of an instructor. The SDI Advanced Diver Development program requires a new Open Water student to take 4 SDI specialties or equivalent, along with having a total of 25 dives. SDI feels a diver will truly be “Advanced” after this is accomplished.

SDI Rescue Diver
  The rescue certification course is designed to develop the knowledge and necessary skills for and individual to effectively perform diver rescues and assists, and administer necessary first aid. Students are taught skills such as how to perform self rescues, recognize and calm potential panic divers, and administer proper first aid to bends victims.

SDI Master Scuba Diver
  The SDI Master Scuba Diver Development Program was created to make truly “Master Divers”. The SDI – Master Scuba Diver Development program requires a new Open Water student to have a total of four (4) SDI specialties and the Rescue Diver course, along with having a total of fifty (50) logged dives. SDI feels a diver will truly be “Master Scuba Diver” after this is accomplished.

SDI Divemaster
  The Divemaster course is designed to develop the skills & knowledge necessary for an individual to lead certified divers in the open water environment. Upon completion, graduates may assist instructors during diving courses and supervise and conduct dives for certified divers. This course trains candidates to have leadership level knowledge and skill.

SDI Assistant Instructor Course
  The Assistant instructor course is designed for students to gain practical teaching experience with an active instructor. Students will help an instructor teach an Open Water Scuba Diver course, Advanced Diver Course, and Rescue Diver Course. Upon completion of the course graduates may teach and certify Skin Divers, conduct the In-active diver program, and conduct the knowledge Quest review in the Open Water Diver Course.

SDI Instructor
  The SDI Instructor Course is designed to teach current Divemaster or Assistants Instructors the knowledge to safely function as an independent instructor. The program is divided into 2 sections, an Instructor Development Course (IDC) and an Instructor Evaluation Course (IEC). The first section teaches the candidates how to properly teach and design courses, the second section evaluates the candidates teaching of open water skills.
